The recipient of a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Barry University in Florida, Richard Isava began his career as a senior manager of sales and distribution at RBTT Trust Limited. He joined the Trinidad-based enterprise in 1991 and worked there until 2000, during which time he established and managed budgets for finance products and developed multiple retirement plans and mutual funds. He also served as a trustee of the firm’s Group Pension Plan. From 2000 to 2003, Richard Isava held the role of assistant vice president of sales and distribution at AIC Financial Group Limited. In addition to providing oversight to a team of client relationship managers, this position involved management of external distributors in the sale of group products such as mutual funds, deposits, loans, mortgages, and repurchase agreements.
Richard Isava served as head of product development and asset management sales at Guardian Asset Management Limited from 2003 to 2008, after which he completed an International MBA at the University of the West Indies’ Arthur Lok Jack School of Business. Mr. Isava then spent four years as vice president of life and health at The Beacon Insurance Company Limited, where he developed insurance products for clients in Caribbean countries like Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and Suriname.
Presently, Richard Isava maintains executive roles with two different companies. He has served as managing director of Guyana Americas Merchant Bank, Inc., since 2013. His responsibilities in this capacity include ensuring the bank’s compliance with regulatory bodies like the Bank of Guyana, Guyana Stock Exchange, and Guyana Securities Council. Richard Isava is also executive director of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI). He has held this position since January 2018. Moreover, he serves as chairman of the Guyana Bankers Association and is a former member of the Guyana Protected Area Trust Finance Committee.
